Project II.2.1: Building climatologies and anomalies

Project Name: II.2.1: Building climatologies and anomalies
Project Lead: Modeling Team

Project Description
The twin cores of this project are codes which organize basic timeseries data into climatologies and anomalies from climatology, and databases which allow easy and meaningful access of those climatologies and anomalies. Because the processes occurring in the CR estuary and plume interact over many spatial definitions and temporal ranges, these climatology codes and databases must be designed with appropriate flexibility and organization. Success will provide mechanisms for quantifying CR change via changing anomaly patterns, as well as for understanding complex CR interactions through correlation between anomalies and between anomalies and other timeseries data.

Fit in program
Climatologies facilitate the understanding of change in the CR processes by defining baseline conditions and anomalies from those conditions. They also provide the basis for simple, meaningful correlation analysis for understanding CR systems. Finally, model based climatologies can provide useful, tractable quantifications of enormous simulation databases.

Outcomes
An easily searchable relational database of climatologies/anomalies, including detailed metadata. A set of codes to quickly and easily generate climatologies/anomalies from any timeseries data.
